Australian Drivers' Championship
'Gold Star'

Australia's Premier Open-Wheeler Category Since 1957

The Gold Star

The Australian Drivers' Championship has been contested since 1957

and is the third oldest title in Australian motorsport.

Each year, the winner of Australia's

premier open-wheeler racing category

is awarded the Gold Star Australian Drivers' Champion award.

The world has changed

Under the stewardship of CAMS, racing for the Gold Star

has always been the domain of the rich or very well connected.

Cashless drivers with real talent were mostly excluded from participating and have stood behind the fence for over 60 years watching a fortunate few circulate.

However a few years ago the world changed and the Hyper Racer X1 was born. A car that provided premier open-wheeler performance that was an affordable option for the serious 'fence dwellers'.

In 2024 the stewardship of the Gold Star passed to the AASA

and the Hyper Racer X1 was selected as the car to contest the prestigious title.

Results

The Australian Driver's Championship is contested by professional and amateur drivers alike, including Formula 3 Champions Ricky Capo and Noah Sands, Ferrari Academy recruit Hayden Crossland and previous Hyper Racer Champions Damon Sterling and Dean Crooke alongside a budding field of racers looking to prove themselves against the best. V8 Supercars talent Cam Waters and Zak Best have also braved the series in 2023 and we look forward to welcoming more top talent to the field via leased drives in 2024 and beyond.

Championship results will be updated round by round here on the ADC website. For a more detailed report, follow Hyper Racer and the Australian Auto Sport Alliance on Facebook and Instagram and look out for race meeting coverage on Speedcafe and Auto Action.
